Wizards Annual Layoffs

Tis the season...As reported over at Greyhawk Grognard (via ENWorld forums), Wizards of the Coast has laid off two well known, long time employees: Steve Winter and Rich Baker. Follow the link for more information and discussion.

Join the Flanaess Geographical Society

Just a quick plug this weekend. I'm sure many of you who frequently use Facebook or know about Anna Meyer's Atlas of the Flanaess site, have by now joined her Facebook group, the Flanaess Geographical Society. This social network is better than most you'll ever join in that Anna regularly keeps up with her mapping progress here, and other Greyhawkian cartographers have begun to display, poll and discuss their own projects as well. To date the membership for the group is up to 130 members and it hasn't slowed down. So if you haven't been directed here yet, you have now. Join in on this informative mapping group!

Paizo To Produce Pathfinder MMO

The fine folks over at Paizo Publishing have had alot of momentum and now look to continue their meteoric rise in the gaming industry by announcing the start of development on a new "sand-box" style MMORPG based on their Pathfinder setting. Read all about it here in their recent news release.

Postfest XVI: Greyhawk-All Things Psionic

Want to write an article for the Greyhawk fansite Canonfire but you don't know where to start? Now's your opportunity to join in a group writing effort with Postfest XVI! This Postfest we feature a new theme:

"The topic of this Postfest is all about psionics in Greyhawk. Whether you use psionics or not, or only just a little bit, this Postfest is for every psionics aficionado out there, as well as for those wishing to explore the topic of psionics by writing an article that melds it with the own ideas on the Greyhawk setting. This is potentially a very broad topic, as the only parameters for an offering is that it has to do with psionics, and Greyhawk of course. Here is a list of just some of the possible topics that one could write on: a Greyhawk-specific psionic class/kit/prestige class/etc., a Greyhawk psionic NPC profile, Greyhawk psionic items, Greyhawk psionic powers, Greyhawk psionic monsters, a Greyhawk psionic creature enclave, or a Greyhawk psionic encounter. thsoe are all sort rules-intensive ideas, but you need not have rules at all, and could instead write an article on "Psionics in Greyhawk" or "Psionic Organizations of Greyhawk"."

Erik Mona Interview

Former champion of the Greyhawk community and now publisher for Paizo, Erik Mona was recently interviewed by the gaming podcast Fear the Boot. While the discussion is about Pathfinder and Wizards of the Coast mainly, he does mention his Living Greyhawk and Greyhawk relevant Adventure Paths. Give it a listen or read the transcript here. WotC President Greg Leeds' Interview

As most of us are by now aware, the people over at ICv2 have posted a two-part interview with Greg Leeds, the CEO of Wizards of the Coast, that they had with him back on September 19^th.

The Greyhawk Gorgnard blog site called my attention to this interview. I'm not trying to rehash any old news with this post. No, I'm posting this strictly for those among us, at Canonfire!, that might not have read the interview for ourselves.

What struck me as the real significance of this interview for Canonfire! fans is the fact that Mr. Leeds spoke very little about plans for D&D in general and made no mention at all about any plans for the Greyhawk setting. All in all, the interview was little more than a hype for Magic the Gathering. But I'll leave it for you, the readers to decide.

Basically, this interview means that the immediate future of the Greyhawk setting is left in the care of its fans, just as it was in '94 and '95. But, given the amount of creativity and effort that fans have shown, throughout Canonfire's history, we can get the setting revived once again.

Welcome to our new blog! Canonfire! is glad to have you as a part of this rag tag group of devoted fans! We're really looking forward to sharing updates, news and thoughts with you, from the very Greyhawk specific . . . to the nefarious and sublime, while maintaining a healthy balance.

You can see that we've been streamlining the Canonfire! site, improving its readability -- especially in the forums. All this in preparation for the many new features we have coming. We hope some of you will want to volunteer to become a part of it.
