We all know too well what occurred when Prince Ivid
became Overking of the Great Kingdom. It set the Naelax house down a path of
destruction which eventually lead to the fall of the Great Kingdom...
Would the Great Kingdom still exist, if Galssonnan
had became the Overking? Would the church of Hextor lose favor and be forced
out of the Great Kingdom? Would Pholtus or Heironeous become the main religious
influence in the Great Kingdom? Would the Pale be the new seat of power for the
Church of Hextor? Most importantly would the Malachite Throne ever exist at
all?
This and many other questions can only be answered by you the Greyhawk
fans. So what do you think would be different if the Cranden's controlled the
seat of power in the Great Kingdom after the Turmoil between crowns?

I dig What If questions. I wish I knew more about the Crandens unfortunately. It is easy as you speculate that w/o the mad Ivid line things wouldn't be so demony or undeady. But that's only a 50/50 chance I bet. That would all depend on the strength of the Cranden house. For all we know they'd fail anyway to the Naelaxes at some point. From Turmoil to Greyhawk Wars is about 150 years after all.
ReplyDeleteOne thing is a guarantee. The Great Kingdom would have even more population because there's be less rampant death and catastrophes.
Prince Galssonnan was very influential. He would of been the popular choice to take over. It was Ivid and house Naelax success in battle and willingness to use humanoids that turned the tide in Ivid's favor. However, history dictates that many houses of the Great Kingdom had at least one person in their house that would bargain with demons. Tuerny comes to mind from house Cranden. Who's to say one of the other house's would not eventually follow the same path Ivid did? Though I like thinking of a Hextor controlled Pale. The Theocrat Issak of Hextor. Has a nice ring to it. Not that far fetched either.
